Beginning Sounds
Reading starts with the ears: before a child can read cat they have to hear that it starts with k. These pages train exactly that. For every letter from A to Z, three pictures and one question - which one starts with this sound? Then four cut-and-sort pages that put two sounds side by side (b or s, c or m), two odd-one-out pages, two pages of drawing a line from the letter to its picture, and twenty-five words to trace while saying the first sound once more. The page for the grown-up explains the one rule that matters: say the sound, not the letter name. Then play I hear with my little ear - like I spy, with sounds. Draw a bell and a drum in four easy steps, join the dots to find a bell, finish the other half of a bell, spot the difference and find the way through three mazes.
